Pentium III PrPMC Module

The EPC®-6315 Processor PCI Mezzanine Card (PrPMC) family is a set of powerful new "Macro Components" that utilizes the density and performance of the RadiSys 82600 integrated chipset to bring an Intel® Architecture processor into ultra-dense form factors. The EPC-6315 offers OEMs a standard module to easily customize and upgrade designs and reduce time to market.

Traditionally, embedded computing architectures would place the processor on a baseboard and use small mezzanine boards to add specialized I/O for specific applications. While this approach extended the life of the investment in the processor board design it made upgrades of the processing function difficult and time consuming. Today, applications with complex I/O require a reversed approach that places the processor on the mezzanine card and the I/O interfaces on the baseboard. This approach extends the life of the I/O and allows simplified upgrading of the processor section as this technology evolves.

For ultra-dense applications demanding a very high performance IA processor, the EPC-6315 offers an 800MHz Pentium* III processor with up to 512MB of on-board SDRAM. For applications requiring less power and performance the EPC-6315 is also offered with 650MHz and 400MHz Celeron* processors. To maximize data integrity and reliability, the EPC-6315 also features ECC protection of the memory with single error correction and double error detection capability. For maximum flexibility the EPC-6315 leverages the dual mode PCI-to-PCI bridge capability of the RadiSys 82600 integrated chipset to automatically configure the bridge based on the strapping of the slot on the baseboard. This capability allows the EPC-6315 to become a Monarch PrPMC and provide PCI bus enumeration and service interrupts on the PCI bus or a Non-Monarch PrPMC and function as a PCI based auxiliary processor.

The Jn1 and Jn2 connectors of the EPC-6315 provide a 32-bit 33/66MHz interface to the PCI bus on the base board as well as providing power and ground. A full set of I/O is provided through the optional Jn4 connector. This I/O includes EIDE, COM and Keyboard interfaces. To simplify network connections, the 10/100 BaseT Ethernet connector is available on the front panel. With the ability to accept a type I Compact Flash device, the EPC-6315 can be a completely self-standing processor in any application.

The EPC-6315 provides a complete CPU and memory subsystem in a compact, rugged, industry standard form factor. It isolates the complexities of high speed CPU and memory from application specific I/O intensive baseboards enabling OEMs to focus on their application specific requirements while simplifying product development and upgrades.
